Pergamon Museum -The Processional Way

The Processional Way decorated the entrance to the ancient biblical city of Babylon. It was designed to impress upon Babylon's subjects and visitors the power and majesty of its rulers. Finally, after passing down its length, one would be confronted with the magnificent Ishtar Gate (see next slide).

The walls have been excavated, reassembled, and today reside in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. The wide corridor you walk through that is lined with the tiles is half as wide as the original 'processional way.' The bright colors on the glazed brick is the original glaze applied in 604 B.C.
